How to use the Computer location in File Explorer

When you click Computer in the navigation pane in File Explorer, you can view locations on your PC (such as internal drives and CD or DVD drives) and devices that might be connected to your PC (such as external drives and USB flash drives).

One of the main reasons to open Computer is to see how much free space you have on a drive, but there's more you can do. The Computer tab on the ribbon lets you see properties for a drive or device, connect to locations on your network, and access system tools. You can also expand Computer in the navigation pane to browse the different folders on your PC.

If Computer doesn't display a drive that's connected to your PC, use Windows Update to check for device driver updates. If that doesn't fix the problem, try using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. ‌ Administrator permission required You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Tap or click to open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
